Sunset Runway 5K to Benefit Advocates for Autism and Celebrate Airport Renovations

Johnson City, NY – The Sunset Runway 5K is set for Thursday, September 12, 2024, offering participants a unique race on the tarmac at the Greater Binghamton Airport. Proceeds will benefit Advocates for Autism, and the event will also help raise awareness about the new construction and updates at the airport. Runners, walkers, and families can all take part in this exciting race, with a portion of the course scheduled to take place as the sun sets, creating a memorable backdrop.
Participants will run a newly designed course of two loops on the runway, offering double the sunset view, while walkers will complete a single loop, and kids can join the fun in a .68-mile kids race.
The race kicks off at 6:30 pm, with day-of registration and packet pickup starting at 5:00 pm at Hangar 2. For convenience, early packet pickup is available on Wednesday, September 11th from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Confluence Running, 130 Oakdale Rd, Johnson City. Runners are encouraged to pick up their packets early to avoid congestion.
Awards and After Party
Participants can compete for Gift Card Awards, which will be presented to overall and age group winners. After the race, join us for a post-race party at Hangar 2, featuring live music by If Madrid and a Moe's Burrito meal included for each runner. An ice cream truck will also be available, with treats available for purchase. Be sure to bring cash if you'd like to grab a post-race sweet!
Swag
All participants will receive special Sunset Runway 5K swag, including a commemorative medal. Due to an overwhelming number of sign-ups, some medals may be shipped post-race. Additionally, Brooks will be on-site with their "nightlife" reflective safety apparel and a chance to try out their latest shoes.
Parking and Course
Parking is available in the long-term lot with validations provided. The course, consisting of two loops, will allow runners to fully enjoy the tarmac while accommodating airport safety requirements.
