What is Healthy Kids Running Series?

The Healthy Kids Running Series (HKRS) is a nationwide, five-week running program designed for children from Pre-K through 8th grade. Held in both the spring and fall, the program offers a variety of age-appropriate races, including 50-yard dashes, 1/4-mile, 1/2-mile, and 1-mile runs. With a focus on promoting fun, fitness, and healthy habits, HKRS encourages children to stay active while earning points for each race they complete.

A Fun and Rewarding Experience for All Ages

Each week of the series provides kids with race bibs, runner shirts, and the opportunity to accumulate points based on their race finishes. Every participant receives a finisher medal at the end of the series, with trophies awarded to top finishers in each age division. This sense of accomplishment keeps kids motivated and helps foster a lifelong love of running.

Inclusivity Through the Challenger Division

One of the standout features of the Healthy Kids Running Series is the Challenger Division, an adaptive race for children with disabilities or special needs. This 75-yard dash allows participants to race with the support of family members and friends, and they are encouraged to use any supportive devices, such as crutches or wheelchairs. This inclusive approach ensures that every child has the chance to experience the joy of running.

Building Stronger, Healthier Communities

HKRS is more than just a running event—it’s a way to bring families, neighbors, and the community together. With opportunities for high school and college students to volunteer and earn service hours, the program fosters a sense of togetherness while promoting physical health and well-being in our youth.
