Running Towards Wellness: Binghamton University’s Marathon Training Journey

Each fall, students at Binghamton University take on an extraordinary challenge through the Marathon Training course (HWS 222). This unique two-credit class blends rigorous physical training with wellness education, culminating in a semester-end half marathon through the scenic South Side of Binghamton. Under the guidance of instructor Matthew Gawors, participants not only enhance their endurance and fitness but also develop lifelong habits for health and resilience. The journey concludes with a celebratory run starting and ending at the West Gym, showcasing the dedication and achievements of these future wellness leaders.

Binghamton Bridge Run: Running Clubs come out in Force | Photos & Results

The Greater Binghamton Bridge Run showcased a vibrant representation from various running clubs, each contributing to the community spirit of the event. Clubs such as Synergy Athletics, Newbsanity, and the Binghamton University Running Club brought together athletes like Carly Fernald and Marie Collin, who achieved notable finish times of 1:33:49.81 and 1:41:32.79, respectively. Other clubs like BAE Systems Run Club and Visions Federal Credit Union Wellness Program also had strong showings with participants like Bob Kuchera and Tim Strong. The event was not only a test of endurance but also a celebration of communal support and sportsmanship, highlighting the impact of these clubs on fostering a cohesive and supportive running community in Binghamton.
